Better Late Than Never!

I know that I was going to post everyday, but better delayed/late than never.

Since the last post, a lot has happened. I met a new guy. Moved out of Mike’s. Started a job. Started a Job. Started a job. Yea, that’s 3 temp jobs. I am back to being unemployed. After having a paycheck every week since April 9th. But now, I need to fill out unemployment paperwork. Plus, I start school on the 7th of June-Which I am very excited for. =)

I love her!

Things are going well for the most part! <3 my Life! No matter how many flips or turns I deal with, I still love being in NY. I wake up with a smile on my face, go to bed with a smile! All because of the people in my life, and around me. I am so blessed for all that I have. I appreciate it all! Thank you! xoxo

Well, it has obviously been a while since I have updated. I do not currently have internet at the apt, but I hope to in a few weeks =). Well, here is my rundown

January 8 2010: Moved In. Nothing super special happened, we stayed in and ordered Chinese.

January 9 2010: Started to work on my resume and looked at my choices-School, Jobs, Bills and Applications.

January 10 2010: VERY LAZY DAY (I admit)…. But I did make some lists.

January 11 2010: PRODUCTIVE- Made phone calls to both Malta and Rotterdam Courts. Cleaned the apartment.

January 12 2010: APPLY DAY 1-Walked to the Mall (30 Minutes to and from) Picked up applications to Pet Company, Friendly’s, Ninety-Nine Restaurant, Customer Service, DEBShops, and Claire’s. Grabbed the Money Orders for Malta and Rotterdam.

January 13 2010: APPLY DAY 2-Walked to the Mall (30 Minutes to and from) Handed in my applications to Pet Company, Friendly’s (INTERVIEW TODAY), Ninety-Nine Restaurant, Customer Service, DEBShops, and Claire’s. Had Dinner and Drinks w. Kelly at Applebee’s then drinks and karaoke at Bombers!

January 14 2010: APPLY DAY 3-Emailed out my resume about 12+ times through CareerBuilder.com. Worked on Benedict Designs =). Had dinner and watched GREY’s w. Jessica! Mailed out my Suspension lift fees!

January 15 2010: Worked on Benedict Designs some more, got a call for an interview w. Office Team (AKA Robert Half International). Studied for my EXCEL Evaluation. Went out w. Kelly to the Bayou in Albany. HAD A BLAST!

January 16 2010: Stayed home all day, had a night to meeee. Nice, but too quiet.

January 17 2010: Spent the day w. Mike watching Scary Movies. Went to Kelly’s for the Night. Movies and popcorn with her and her kids.

January 18 2010: Stayed with Kelly until about 5pm when I went back to Mikes and relaxed and studied some moreeee.

January 19 2010: Laundry, Study, Clean BLAHHH!

January 20 2010: HAD MY INTERVIEW! Went awesome! I hope to have a job within the next week. I filled out paper work with them for my direct deposit and everything so I am thinking that is a good sign!!! hahaha.

Soooo, yea, lol there is the updated rundown of whats going on with me!!! I hope to update again soon =)

Moving Day!

Well, today is the day! I had a great last night. Crystal, Meghane, Lindsey, Jessica, Lindsay, and a few others joined me out at my favorite local bar for my typical karaoke night! Had a BLAST!!! Came home, and grabbed a bite, and off to bed my butt attempted to go. It was difficult to sleep. I felt like a kid trying to sleep before Christmas. You know, when you are SOOOO filled with excitement, and you can’t stay asleep.

Mom woke me up this morning and actually spoke to me. She really hasn’t said much since I told her of my decision on Tuesday night. Matthew left for school, no problem, Nicole has been texting me asking when I am leaving. My dog, of course is no where to be found. She knows what it means when I pack. And I spent all day yesterday cleaning my room to my dad’s standards. Along w. my day, I am VERY surprised! haha! Shadow is not happy about me leaving thats for sure.

Woke up w. a phone call from Mike, and everything is still a go-thank goodness, cause if it weren’t, I’d kick his a$$ and make him come unpack for me! hahaha you think I’m kidding! The plan is to leave here at 11-11:30 w. my dad and go get his mom so she can go see her sister in Schenectady. Its going to be a long day. But hopefully it will all be good. =) I cannot wait.

JUST REMEMBER~ “no one learns to make the right decisions without being free to make the wrong ones.“~

My Last full Day.

I am getting nervous. Not quite sure if it is a good nervous or not-maybe a balance of each. I am nervous to see how this all works out and I am excited because I have made my first “big girl” decision. Obviously this isn’t as huge as it could be, but still, a big deal to me.

Today, is being spent packing and making phone calls. I woke up to a phone call (conversation I was going to have later tonight) from the woman I babysit for. She said that she has her mother-in-law in town for the night, and she will watch the boys. So I explained everything to her and she understands. Now, to call the courts, my daddy, and a few others.

I hope that I get to see my baby boy (Jack Daniels, my rabbit) for the day before I move. But that all depends on my sissy, Nicole-She has “custody” of both. I say it like that because I can’t keep him here w. my so I pay her to watch him and allow him to stay w. his brother who is her rabbit Henry.

Wellll, it is time for me to be productive. “No one has ever got ahead sitting on their behind.”

Less Than Two Days

I cannot believe how quickly I have done this. How quickly I have made this decision, and how quickly the day is coming. The day I move to improve my life. To move forward and up. Will this bring me the happiness I yearn for? The happiness I deserve? Do I deserve happiness when it is causing others pain? Do I put their lives and feelings of happiness before my own? I pray that I will find answers.

Today was a very lazy day unfortunately. I spent most of the day asleep, then curled up in my chair, snuggled Shadow. =) I began my packing and sorting my clothing. I packed a ton. Even though I am only starting on going for two weeks. Welll, time for some dinner. Tomorrow is my last day in Vermont. . . . hope I am making the right choice!

T-minus Three Days. . .

Until today, this website has been a school assignment. But today, it becomes my Public Journal (in which, people are welcome to comment and give input and opinions.) Now, I have to make a choice. Do I stay or do I go? My family has been going through changes that I have no control over. Being who I am, I have always tried to please others and that is something this 22 year old has learned is not so easy. I have always been blessed with friends who were there when I needed them. With family close by. With parents that love me. But what is happiness? I am surrounded by people wherever I am, yet, I feel that I am standing in the middle of a room, screaming and no one can hear me. Like no one notices or cares. So, I have made a choice. I am going to do something for me. I am going to move, back to New York.

This decision was reached around 3 am today (January 5th, 2010) New Year. New Me. New Place. On January 8th, I will be moving to Schenectady New York. That means leaving a lot of people behind, but its the best choice right now. I am unemployed. Without my license. No car. Moving to New York I will be around my college friends, I will attend school, I will get things straightened out. I would love to stay here, and help my mom keep the house, but that isn’t possible if I am unemployed. I will be sending money home to help, but being here, there is nothing for me. No job opportunities that help me move forward and up.

Today, I straighten things out. I have told my cousin, my father and two of my friends. It has been a productive happy and sad day-which probably wont get much happier because I have to tell my mother. Phone calls have been made, checks have been written. Now, to get stuff done.

I really hope you all enjoy this video. I had a lot of fun making it and definitely will admit, I cried a bit. I miss my girls soooo much! They have watched this video and have sent me text messages, voicemails, messages on facebook, all telling me they miss me, they cried, or in Melissa’s case “awww i watched this on my lunch break… bad idea…”

I just wanted to add one more thing.

I love you all very much. I thank you for always being here for me. When I needed you or even when I didn’t deserve the help. Words cannot explain my feelings about you girls. You are my angels. Always here for me. Always here for one another.

Visual Tools, Make a Difference

Let me begin by saying that this video was very informative! I had to focus really hard to take in one piece of the video or the other, the information or the visual aspect. At first, while I was watching/listening, I wont lie, I was very confused! Was I supposed to be listening to the data? Was the data going to be anything of interest or related to technology? After restarting the video a few times, I just had to sit down, with my head in my hands and focus!

Hans Rosling, has a very enthusiastic approach to this presentation! He was talking very quickly as all of the information was changing. Every “year” the data was moving and growing! Although, with his accent and speed he was speaking it was tough to follow, but considering the information was not as important as the visual aspect, I could go back and listen later.

Visually, Rosling’s presentation was very appealing! The animation and flow of the data drew my attention. If more presentations were like this, less people would probably fall asleep during lectures. As the video progressed, his visuals began to have me think back to when we were all creating our clouds!

A great artist that I want to throw out there, is Joshua Davis! Hans Rosling’s graph shapes and designs really made me think about Joshua’s work (pictured to the left). I think of his work when I was looking at the progression of the information.

Amazon.com has recently release the newest version of the Kindle, called the Kindle 2. The original Kindle had a battery life that lasted days, was not as quick at page turning and other features. But this new Kindle 2, has a battery which lasts for days, faster page turning and has raised some controversy with the EXPERIMENTAL text to speech feature.

WOW, a little over dramatic don’t you think! Honestly, there are much bigger changes that could be made that would have us thinking “the end of civilization”. I believe, that it is a good thing that technology has come this far. We can now own hundreds of books with out worrying about making space in our homes to keep them all! The Kindle is easier to handle than a normal hard back printed book. It holds your place, it is attractive and discrete. You don’t have to worry about people staring at you, wondering what the hell you are reading etc. This device is 10.2 ounces and thinner than a pencil! I would love to own this Kindle 2.

Part of the controversy is the matter of the legal rights regarding the audio componant. That’s correct. The new Kindle 2, has a Read-To-Me option. This option has caused some dispute between publishers, writers and Amazon (The creator of Kindle)

Read-to-Me: With the experimental Text-to-Speech feature, Kindle can read newspapers, magazines, blogs, and books out loud to you, unless the book’s rights holder made the feature unavailable

“But that text-to-speech capability? It’s an obnoxious robot reading to you — we couldn’t stand to listen to it for more than a few seconds. Unless you’re blind, you’ll want to avoid it.” I kind of agree. But you know what, it is an option! You (the reader) is not required to listen to it. It could be convenient to some, like if you have to cook dinner, and you are so deep in the story, and rather than put the book down, if you can handle the ‘obnoxious robot reading to you’ then you can just relax and pus the button!

“UNLESS THE BOOK’S RIGHTS HOLDER MADE THE FEATURE UNAVAILABLE!” If there are people who do want to profit from the audio source, then make it a separate SMALL charge. For example, the book is sold on Amazon for $9.99, have the additional audio a dollar added on. There are some people who wouldn’t require the use of the Read-to-Me option.

What the guild is asserting is that authors have a right to a fair share of the value that audio adds to Kindle 2’s version of books. For this, the guild is being assailed. On the National Federation of the Blind’s Web site, the guild is accused of arguing that it is illegal for blind people to use “readers, either human or machine, to access books that are not available in alternative formats like Braille or audio.” Personally, when I first read this information, I was in shock! I felt like I was being told that I cannot read to my little cousin without being served legal papers! Like people who go and read to the blind are committing a crime.

The guild is also accused of wanting to profiteer off family bedtime rituals. A lawyer at the Electronic Frontier Foundation sarcastically warned that “parents everywhere should be on the lookout for legal papers haling them into court for reading to their kids.”

I was having a conversation with a friend about the kindle and the copyright laws, and one thing we mentioned was that “law rarely keeps up with technology.” Which is very true. Now, the authour/publishers, need to think about this. Update your copyright laws if you want your way.
